THE SALT CAY AIRPORT is a tiny domestic airport, with a small single building functioning as the terminal. This complex welcomes a few flights from Providenciales and Grand Turk per week.

On October 30, 2020, the airport was re-opened after being closed for more than a year due to repairs and upgrades being made. The name was subsequently changed to the 'Leon Wilson Airport', named after Henry Leon Wilson, a Salt Cay parliamentarian and youngest person ever elected to Parliament in the Turks and Caicos.

Check-in and Arrival Times

It’s generally a breeze to arrive and depart through Salt Cay.

On Salt Cay, there’s no need to arrive 2 hours before your flight, as is the common practice for international flights departing from Providenciales. Checking in 30 minutes before your departure is typically more than sufficient.

Due to the limited size of Salt Cay, you'll usually be able to see your plane approaching regardless of your location.

Small twin-engine turboprop aircraft are the typical planes used for the Salt Cay island hopping route, so luggage space may be limited. If you expect to travel with much baggage, we advise clarifying limitations with the local airline.

As scheduled commercial flights fly to Salt Cay, a firefighting truck and crew are maintained on the island, and are on standby during flight times.

Shopping and Dining

Salt Cay Airport (SLX) features a small cafe inside the terminal which serves drinks and snacks. It's usually open whenever there's a scheduled flight.

Two restaurants can be found five minutes away in the main settlement of Balfour Town.

Transportation

There’s no transport available for rent at the airport. It’s necessary to either reserve a rental golf cart or bicycle for pickup upon arrival, make prior arrangements with your accommodation or host for transport, or walk.

If you’re visiting on a day trip from Providenciales or Grand Turk, we highly advise renting a golf cart ($50 per day) for your stay.

Contact Information and Private Flights

There isn't any government immigration or customs staff at the Salt Cay Airport. If you need to contact the airport, please direct your inquiries to Providenciales International Airport (PLS), which may have someone who will be able to assist you.
